Report on UGC Sponsored Two Day National Level Conference on “Application of Statistics in Commerce, Economics & Social Sciences” held on 8th &9th January 2016
The Two Day UGC Sponsored National Level interdisciplinary Conference on “Application of Statistics in Commerce, Economics & Social Science” held on 8th & 9th January 2016, organised by Rizvi Education Society’s Rizvi College of Arts, Science & Commerce in association with Shri JJT University, Rajasthan received an overwhelming response. A swiping 133 participants from Kashmir, Karnataka, Gujarat, Punjab, Silvasa, Nagpur, Pune, Rajasthan, Dehradun, Delhi, Telangana, Pune and Mumbai shows the representativeness of a truly national conference. Out of these 133 participants, 112 people contributed papers for presentation which compelled us to run the conference in simultaneous tracks. This national conference also had international paper presenters from Bahrain and Canada and Keynote Speaker Dr. Kuldeep Kumar, Prof. of Bond University, Australia and that took the conference to new heights.
The objectives of the conference were highlighted by the Vice-Principal of the college Dr. Anjum Ara Ahmad, who spoke about the importance of motivating researcher to apply statistical technique for better research. Dr. M Z Farooqui, Principal of Rizvi College welcomed and felicitated the guests. He highlighted the major achievements of teachers and students. The Chief Guest Mr Shailesh Singh, Additional Director General of Police, inaugurated the conference. In his speech, he stressed on the need for a social change where all kinds of labour would be valued equally and the ratio of highly paid jobs and least paid job would be minimised. The Honourable Chancellor of Shri JJT Univ. also graced the occasion and in this speech highlighted the importance of statistics and its need for creation of knowledge. The first part of inaugural session was concluded with the college receiving the certificate of the ISO 9001-2008 Certification from the hands of the Chief Guest Mr Shailesh Singh.
The conference had a number of invited speakers from all over the country. Dr. Sanket Vij (Chairperson & Director, B.P.S. Women University, Haryana). Dr. G.V. Bhavani Prasad (Professor, Kakatiya University, Warangal, Andhra Pradesh), Dr. Ashwini Bhalla (Professor & Vice-President, PCMA, Ludhaina) and Dr Besavraj Benni ( Chairperson, PG Dept. of Economics) VSK Univ. Karnataka) were some of the speakers who made their presence felt in the conference. The technical sessions were chaired by eminent personalities from reputed organisations. In each track two best paper presenters were awarded.
In the valedictory session we had Dr. Urmila Devi, Joint Secretary, UGC, New Delhi and Dr. Shailendra Deolankar, Joint Director, Higher Education of Mumbai region as the Chief Guest. The sessions of Dr. Urmila Devi and as well as Dr Shailesh Deolankar was interactive in nature where they answered many queries of the participants. Dr Urmila Devi also briefed the participants about the various research schemes available for teachers. Dr Deolankar discussed ways on promoting humanities and social sciences among students. The session ended with Vote of Thanks by the Vice- Principal & Convener Dr. Anjum Ara Ahmad who finally thanked all the sponsors, organising secretaries Mrs Shahida Shaikh and Ms Shweta Panday, the members of the organising committee, participants, Guests and Resource persons for giving their valuable time and thus making this program a huge success. This Conference would not have been possible without the support of the President Dr. Akhtar Hasan Rizvi and Secretary Mr. Abis Rizvi of Rizvi Education Society, Trustee Javed Rizvi and Principal Dr. M. Z. Farooqui. The Conference ended with an address by our respected Principal, who gave a brief on our Channel Campus 24 and requested the participating faculties to send their best lectures to us so that we can put them live on our Channel. This conference took interdisciplinary research to a greater height.
