Rizvi Education Society’s Rizvi College of Arts, Science and Commerce, The Survey of Women Status team of the Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension in collaboration with Anti-Ragging Committee and Anti-Ragging Squad had organized a Self-defense Workshop on 22nd of February, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the College Auditorium


The Self-Defense Workshop was conducted for the students to learn to protect themselves from physical harm in serious situations. Dr. ShilpaSerigar, CommonWealth Judo Gold Medalist, was invited as the Chief Guest. The workshop was instructed by Mr. Rizwan Khan, (Student: SYBAF) 3rd Degree Black Belt in Karate. Technical ways to get out of situations like groping, choking and eve-teasing were thought. Participants were allotted with sufficient time to practice every technique. The workshop was highly interactive, volunteers from Survey of Women Status, Anti-Ragging committee and Anti-Ragging Squad were present to assistparticipants.


Overall there were 40 students (Males: 16 and Females: 24) 6 teaching faculties had also participated (Male: 02 and Female: 04). The workshop was conducted on offline mode, and so special care was taken in following COVID-19 guidelines and protocols were strictly followed by the organizers as well as the participants. Feedback received from the participants indicates that the Self-defense workshop had a positive impact on students as well as professors, as theygot a hand on experience on few self-defense techniques of protecting themselves, and not relying on or being depended on others for their own safe
